About Us

Hi! We are Missy and David Fisher. We have been married for two years, and are ready to begin building our dream home. I teach special education in Fayette County, and David is a mechanic at Delta. We decided two years ago to change our lives after reading The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. During this process we paid off debt. Our goal was building our dream home, and this blog is about our adventures in accomplishing that goal.

Builders

Well, David and I have met with four builders. We have seen houses by these four builders, and we like their work.

The first builder was great. He had a great personality, and he was very friendly. He met us at our lot and discussed our plans with us. He has built this house plan before, and he really likes it. He was even building this exact house at another location, and he told us we were welcome to go and see it at any time. We went and looked at the house, and we fell in love with it even more than we thought. We knew that we had picked the right plan.

We met the second builder at a model home that he had just finished building. The quality of the houses was nice, but we did not feel that his ideas were the same as ours. He was very friendly and nice, but overall we think that his houses were over priced for the neighborhood and the quality of work that we are looking for in a home was just not what we wanted in our home.

The third builder also met us at our lot. He was a very friendly guy too. He had also built this same house plan a few times in a neighborhood close to us. We have seen his work, and we like it. We gave him our ideas, and he is going to get back with us on a price.

We met with the fourth and last builder today. He has built several homes in the community where we plan to build our home. His homes are great. He was a very nice man. We also gave him our ideas, and he is going to get back with us on a price as well.

So it seems that we have this narrowed down to three builders. We love the work of all three builders. Now I guess it will come down to price. In the economy today, who will want to build this house for us as the best rate? We shall see. I am so excited to see what the numbers are going to be. :0)

House Plans

David and I have been looking at house plans for over a year now. There were just so many house plans that we loved, but most of them needed so many changes to fit our needs. After many months of talking and discussing the things that we wanted and needed, we finally came to a decision about the house plan for us. We have decided on the Kensington Park by Frank Bezt. I have posted some pics of the house and plans.

The Land is Officially Ours!!!

Today we finally closed on the land lot. We should have closed sooner, but things always seem to come up. We wanted to make sure that the county thought our lot was acceptable for building, so we had to get a septic permit. Even thought we don't plan to build until next year, we needed to know before we purchased this beautiful lot. We went out to our lot and measured out where we want out house to be built. The county came out and looked at our lot, and it was approved. Then we had a little negotiating to do with the developer about closing costs. Mistakes , mistakes , mistakes.... Everyone makes them. :0) Anyway, here we are on August 31, 2010, and we finally own our lot. Now it is time to contact a few builders and start making plans for next year! I am so excited! We think we know what we want. We just hope things work out for us!

Our Lot in the Winter

Our Lot in the Fall

Family Visits

David and I are constantly going out to our lot to look at it. We have been out to see it at sunrise and sunset. We have even watched a storm as it came into the subdivision. Now that we are so close to owning it, we decided to start telling our family and taking them out to the lot. Yesterday Ashlyn and I took David's Mamaw out to see the lot. Today we took David's dad and step mom out to see it. We are very excited! We have set our closing day for July 26.

Loan Approval

We have been searching for a lot and neighborhood for the past two years. We have visited just about every single neighborhood in Coweta County and part of Fayette County. We first visited Lake Summerfield subdivision two years ago. We really loved the neighborhood and the type of homes built in that neighborhood. The lots are pretty large, there is a huge lake, and it is very open and beautiful. We wanted to look all around before deciding on a neighborhood. Well, we kept finding our way back over to Lake Summerfield. We could not stay away. We finally decided that this is where we wanted to build a house. So yesterday we were approved for our loan for the lot. We made an offer the same day, and today the developer accepted our offer. Hopefully we will be closing in the next two weeks.
